UPDATED FEB 2020. Even though Dublin is a bustling city, it’s nice to know that there are places to stay where you can be in the heart of the touristy action and still cozy up in a quiet room. Today I’m reviewing a couple of Dublin bed and breakfast options that are solo female travel approved. I stayed at both during my recent trip to Ireland and though they were different in their style and vibe, they both went overboard on coziness and comfortability. Let’s take a closer look at them.

Dublin bed and breakfast #1
Stauntons On The Green location
The first Dublin bed and breakfast I stayed at was Stauntons On The Green.
The space was cozy and intimate, yet it had all the convenience of a big hotel, so it felt like the best of both worlds.
It is a charming boutique hotel with a convenient location across from St Stephens Green in the heart of Dublin.
It’s a great option for solo female travelers because of the location.
From your doorstep, you can walk through the Green to many of the main sights, as well as to Air Coach, bus, train and DART stations, and day tour pick up points.
When you are cozying up in your warm room at night though, you wouldn’t realize you are in the city center because it is such a quiet and relaxing space.
The breakfast
Sometimes breakfasts at hotels can be hit or miss, but the breakfast here is a hit.
You can fuel up with a full Irish breakfast – egg, bacon, sausage, tomato, mushroom and white pudding, among other choices. Wash it down with a fresh coffee or juice and you are ready to go for the day.
The staff in the breakfast room were wonderful and even helped me make my breakfast Keto by leaving out the toast and bringing heavy cream for my coffee.
Avoiding carbs as much as possible while traveling can be tricky but it is essential to managing my disease, Endometriosis, so I always appreciate the help.
If you’d like to save a little money, there is a Spar grocery store nearby to pick up some meals or snacks. There are plenty of restaurants nearby as well.
The staff on the desk will certainly be able to help you with recommendations, just let them know what you are in the market for.
Air Coach stop: Kildare Street on the 700 bus, then a couple of minutes walk to the B&B.

Number 31 location and first impressions
My next stop was to Number 31 which is located a short walk down the road from Stauntons On The Green.
It was deceiving from the outside because it doesn’t look like anything special at first glance, but, as I entered, I was quick to find that a first impression can be misleading.
In perhaps the Beyoncé of common areas, a stylish sunken lounge complete with a bar and fireplace greets you before you move to the check-in desk and finally to your room.
The hotel is made of two townhouses filled with cozy rooms connected by an uber-cute outdoor garden with a magic ‘Secret Garden’ type feel.
Pros and cons of Number 31
The only thing I didn’t like about Number 31 was the room key. It was attached to a heavy, almost paperweight like keyring which was annoying to carry around.
Other than that it was a relaxing retreat, and again, in the heart of the city but a world away from the noise.
It was different to Stauntons On The Green in that it had more of a stylish hotel vibe, but was still as comfortable and quiet with all the amenities you would need.
The large shower with the waterfall head is heavenly and you can even use the dial to set the exact water temperature you want which I thought was pretty neat. I usually just go with a first-degree burns level of hot for my showers but it was cool to have a number to put to that!
I didn’t get to try the breakfast here, but I have heard that it’s pretty amazing. If you have tried it, please let me know how it is!
I did go for dinner at the nearby Matt The Thresher restaurant which is only a couple of minutes walk from the B&B. It was fantastic and I highly recommend it, especially if you like seafood.
Air Coach stop: Leeson St Lower (opposite Stephen’s Hall Hotel) on the 700 bus, then a couple of minutes walk to the B&B.
If I had to pick a favorite
I’m confident that either of these will serve as a cozy home away from home while you are visiting Dublin, but if I had to pick one as a favorite, I think I would pick the Stauntons on the Green.
It wins by only a small margin because I just loved that it felt like a cozy home.
It is a pretty close call though and if I was returning to Dublin, I would happily stay at either of these again.
